Tugu Hotel Canggu
Location: Canggu, Bali

Built from a love for Indonesian art, food, culture and history, Tugu Hotel offers an authentic Balinese experience on one of Bali’s most popular surf beaches. Tugu is not your standard Canggu hotel and is on a mission to bring back to life the art, soul and romance of Indonesia’s yesteryears. Here’s more on this hidden gem….

What makes Tugu Hotel different to other hotels?

Tugu Hotels’ founder, Anhar Setjadibrata, the owner of the biggest collection of fine art and cultural antiquities in Indonesia, designed these beautiful boutique museum hotels to house his antiques. This passion for Indonesia’s past is evident throughout and guests are treated to a full Balinese experience.

What’s on the menu?

As with the decor, when it comes to food, Tugu is all about providing a cultural dining experience. Breakfast is healthy and plentiful and the Sunday brunch at the hotel’s Ji Restaurant is very popular. This rooftop Japanese fusion and sake bar provides free-flow fine wine and the best sushi going.

What else is in the area?

There is a real buzz about Canggu, with its healthy cafes, boutique shops and hipster bars.

There is a party somewhere most nights, or if you’re looking to chill out, then head to the beach for a sundowner. The location of Tugu is perfect for enjoying all that Canggu has to offer, whilst giving you the option to escape back into the hotel when you are done with the busy streets and bustling bars.

How far is the hotel from the surf?

You merely have to cross the road to arrive at Canggu’s iconic surf spots: Old Mans and Batu Bolong. Both are perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers and a favourite with the longboard crew. The water isn’t crystal clear but the waves are consistent. These spots can be busy, but the joy of Tugu’s location means you can jump in before the crowds arrive and do regular surf checks from the rooftop bar.
