SurfGirl Summer Wetsuit Guide 2018

It’s time to start thinking about getting kitted out with a new summer wetsuit now that spring’s here. We’ve handpicked our favourite suits to keep every wallet happy and we’ll sure you’ll find one that’s perfect for you!
Here’s our top picks.

Whether it’s your first time buying a wetsuit or you’re just unsure about what you’re looking for, we’ve compiled three key areas to think about when you’re shopping for your new suit.

1. Invest in what you can afford
Be realistic about your budget. As a general rule, the more you spend, the more technical aspects the wetsuit will have; but there’s no need to break the bank as there are plenty of decent, affordable wetsuits on the market that will see you through a season or two in the surf.
Ask yourself:

– How often do you plan on wearing your wetsuit?
– What seasons will you be surfing in?
– Is this just a hobby I’ll dip into once in a while, or something I want to try and do every day?

2. Give a chest zip a go If you’ve never tried a chest zip wetsuit before, then why not give one a go this summer?
If you hate the flush that some back-zip wetsuits give, then it’s worth investing in a front/chest zip wetsuit. They aren’t for everyone but they do keep you much warmer than the traditional back-zip suits. Don’t be put off by new technology or terminology you don’t understand on the tag – ask the sales assistant in the store or, if you’re buying online, then do your research.

3. Try before you buy
The sizes and fit of wetsuits vary varies between brands, sometimes quite dramatically. So don’t ever judge a wetsuit until you have it on – always try before you buy. We would advise trying on a selection of sizes in different brands to find the one that fits your body shape the best. The better the fit, the more warm and comfortable you’ll be in the sea and the more you’ll want to surf!
