SurfGirl Workshops:
A Successful March Motivation Worksh

Last night we were thrilled to welcome so many friendly and happy women to our first SurfGirl event of 2019, the March Motivation Workshop.
With it’s surfboard and plant lined walls, Open Cafe in St Agnes proved the perfect venue for the event, where Offshore beer flowed, delicious crepes were devoured and ladies chatted all things surf.

Focused on how to stay motivated in the surf and improve your confidence, British champ Dominique Kent kicked the night off with a down to earth talk about the trials and tribulations of learning to surf. Dom shared tips and feed back from her own personal experience with paddling out back, holding your own in the line up, rips, reading waves and general confidence in the water. Highlighting that whether surfing giants or white water, it must always be about having fun.

SurfGirl Assistant Editor and surf coach Corinne Evans then took to the mic to chat all things surf fitness and addresses those niggling issues when it comes to taking your surfing to the next level. Sharing her personal surf journey and experience of becoming a first-time mum whilst trying to make time for surf sessions.

The third and final speaker of the night was London Surf Film Festival co-director Demi Taylor who gave an insightful and humorous step-by-step account of making her own surfboard along with tales of surf, surf culture and curating the Film Festival.

The evening was rounded off with the inspiring and eye opening movie ‘Surf Girls Jamaica’, a film focused on Imani Wilmot, an inspirational Jamaican surfer who uses the sport as a means of transforming the tough lives of the women around her, in Kingston and surrounding areas.
The stories, tips, experience and advice from all three speakers resulted in an informative but light hearted evening. There was a lot of positivity, good vibes and love for women in water, those learning to surf and women within the surf industry in general so a big thanks to all those who attended.

More SurfGirl events to follow later this year including the Progression Session workshop on 27th April and a fitness and surf event in May.
