My Nalu bead would be called Freshwater West because I live next to it and it is the best surf beach in Wales, theres no place like Fresh and I’m 12 and I love surfing there. The colours for Fresh would be just like the beach, everytime I go down the hill on my bike it’s a different colour and so beautiful, so my Nalu bead would be lapiz blue and aqua green for the sea, sparking white for the waves, lines of burnt umber for the headlands and a little bit of driftwood for the sand dunes. And it would look great if it had bubbles to show how clear the water is at Fresh x

Born: Australia
Resides: Lennox Head, New South Wales, Australia
ASP Women’s World Tour Rating: 4th. 2011 ASP World Tour Rookie of the Year.
Elite Tour Victories: (2) – Beachley Classic (2008) *as a Wildcard – O’Neill Women’s World Cup (2010) *as a Wildcard

Following in the footsteps of older brother Owen, Aussie Tyler Wright detonated mind- boggling performances on the 2010 ASP World Ranking to finish at No. 3 overall and qualify as the youngest ever surfer to compete as a part of the ASP Women’s World Tour at just 16 years of age.

Wright’s title as a childhood prodigy is due to an impressive list of accolades including her win at the Beachley Classic at just 14 years of age, making her the youngest surfer of all time to win an ASP World Tour event. The female powerhouse showed she’s only just begun however; as she went on to clinch the O’Neill World Cup of Surfing in December 2010, a warning to her 2011 competitors that she would be a dangerous draw in her inaugural tour year.

With a full range of maneuvers from airs to classic power-carves to her comfort in the barrel, Tyler made an impressive induction onto the world stage, finishing number four in the world and declared 2011 ASP World Tour Rookie of the Year.

“I’ve had a great year. I think the girls really stepped it up this year,” Tyler said. “There were a few events where I didn’t get to perform like I would’ve liked, but it still felt cool. Snapper was my best event surfing-wise. It was a great year to come on tour. It’s at the stage now where it’s at a turning point. It’s no longer going to be about floaters and cutbacks. In the next five years, it’s possibly going to be about finners and airs.”

“Obviously I wanted to be world champion. I think that’s everyone’s goal, but I just wanted to have a good year. Top five was a hopeful benchmark for me.”

With the 2011 Women’s Tour completed, Tyler plans on heading to the snow and attacking swells with her brother and fellow pro-surfer Owen, “I’ll probably be looking for barrels. I love getting barreled. I’ll probably go looking for more waves also. Even on the [NSW] South Coast we can get some good waves on the right swell. Maybe I’ll go to Bali too.”

Tyler will offically be crowned early next year at the annual ASP Banquet on the Gold Coast.

Rip Curl team member Cannelle Bulard is the 2011 ISA Junior World Champion!

After a good 7th place during the 2010 edition in New Zealand, Cannelle clinched her first major World Title in Punta Hermosa Peru.

The brand new ISA Junior World Champion was, until now, one of the most promising rider of the new French generation. With this title, Canelle confirmed her rise among the best world junior riders, especially in big conditions such as yesterday during the last day of the contest.

A 9 foot swell was expected for the final day of the 2011 ISA Junior World Championships. In those conditions, Cannelle fully expressed her potential. However, her route for the final hasnt been that simple since after a disappointing Round 5, she had to go through 3 repercharge Rounds before facing Bianca Buitendag (ZAF), Codie Klein (AUS) and herRip Curl Team mate Nikki Van Dijk (AUS).

Thanks to a powerful backhand and a perfect wave vision, Cannelle got a 13.86 point total in the final leaving no chances to her opponents.

This is great, I dont know what to say or feel! declared Cannelle. Its my last year as Junior. I had tried to win this competition in the past and my dream finally came true. I cant believe it.

Congratulations to Cannelle Bulard on winning the 2011 ISA Junior World Title!

Certainly not the best conditions to get some confidence on this tricky wave, especially knowing that she will face Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), four times reigning ASP World Champion, in the Round 1.

Stephanie’s ranking and experience didn’t let much chance to Pauline who ended 2nd of the heat, just before Alana Blanchard (HAW), the other International Rip Curl rider of the heat

In Round 2, Pauline Ado faced Melanie Bartels (HAW). The young French rookie dominated the heat until the very last second when Mel managed to take a small but powerful wave good enough to take the lead and advance to Round 3. A frustrating way to leave the competition but an experience every professional surfer has to face in his career.

This early elimination didn’t take away Pauline’s smile who used the last few days off to visit Sydney with her friend Jessi Miley-Dyer. Manly, Chinatown, the Opera, Harbour Bridge. The city doesn’t have any more secret for her. Of course, the competition is never far away and Pauline also kept practicing on a daily basis.

For Pauline, Dee Why is the end of a 4 month trip across Australia.

After having already spent 2 years on the WQS circuit, Pauline Ado rejoins the rare list of Europeans to qualify for the ASP Womens World Tour. Pauline feels more confident having achieved a good result at Snapper during the first leg of the 2011 season. She was knocked out in Round 4 by the young Tyler Wright (AUS) but she should congratulate herself all the same on beating Sofia Mulanovich and Rebecca Woods.

Womens professional surfing continues to progress. Not far from getting the media coverage of their male counterparts, female surfers on the World Tour 2011 have to pull out all the stops to keep the standard of surfing high.

The image of high-level sportswomen devoted entirely to their sport will be shattered if surfer girls are constantly represented by eternal images of nymphs in bikinis dancing about on perfect waves in turquoise water.

Pauline and her rivals will surf no fewer than seven world class waves; from Australia to New Zealand, Brazil, Europe and Hawaii. Starting on the 25th April, a series of 8, 6-minute films depicts the daily life of Pauline Ado, a French athlete with a grasp on the world title. Each episode takes place during the competitions and illustrates the sporting life as well as the personal life of this pro surfer on the tour

This series give us a look at the daily life and reality of a pro surfer girl from her first year on the circuit.
Above: Alana Blanchard power move. Below: Melanie Bartels stoked with her sweet tube ride.

Victoria/Australia (Thursday, April 21, 2011) Round 2 of the Rip Curl Womens Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford Fiesta, the second stop on the 2011 ASP Womens World Title season, was completed this morning in firing three-to-five (1 1.5 metre) waves at Bells Beach and the worlds best female surfers reveled in the pristine, offshore conditions.

Carissa Moore (HAW), 18, current ASP Womens World No. 1, bounced back from yesterdays Round 1 loss in spectacular fashion, scoring two nine-point rides earning the highest heat total of the event and sending the young Australian wildcard, Nikki Van-Dijk (AUS), 16, packing.

That was so much fun! Moore said. Halfway through that heat Nikki (Van Dijk) and I were looking at each other thinking are you serious, its just you and me surfing right now? In the mornings, we dont really catch many waves because all the guys get the good ones, so it was nice to get some good conditions. I dont really remember my waves too well, I just remember being psyched to surf and having this beautiful wall in front of me.

Melanie Bartels (HAW), 28, veteran campaigner on the elite ASP Womens World Tour, was another to excel in this mornings fantastic conditions. Bartels managed to score two rare tube rides in her 30-minute duel with rookie Laura Enever (AUS), 19, to take out the win and advance through to Round 3.

The past few days Ive been coming here really early in the morning, Bartels said. Paddling out at the crack of dawn (which I dont normally do) and sitting out there for hours and only catching one wave. So to have waves like that with only one other girl out was great. Im so happy to be here and the waves are going off.

Tyler Wright (AUS), 17, 2011 ASP Top 17 rookie and current No. 2 in the hunt for the 2011 ASP Womens World Title, put on an impressive performance, mixing power carves with stylish snaps to easily progress into Round 3.

Thats the best Ive ever surfed Bells! Wright said. Its really firing, the sets are going all the way through, its sick. When the waves are that good its hard to think about competing, I just wanted to catch waves. Im not really thinking about ratings right now, Im just doing my own thing and having fun.

Other winners this morning included Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS), 24, Chelsea Hedges (AUS), 27, and Courtney Conlogue (USA), 18.

When womens competition resumes, up first will be Silvana Lima (BRA), 26, Chelsea Hedges (AUS), 27, and Melanie Bartels (HAW), 28, in the opening heat of Round 3.

Reigning ASP Champ Stephanie Gilmore looks to rebound back at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach which starts next week.

ABOVE: Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 23, reigning four-time ASP World Champion and defending Rip Curl Womens Pro Bells Beach winner, will look to regain her form when the 2011 ASP Womens World Title season recommences next week.

The worlds best female surfers are poised to return to the competitive singlet with the second stop on the 2011 ASP Womens World Title season, the Rip Curl Womens Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford Fiesta, from 19 25 April 2011.

With a fresh crop of talent injected into the ASP Top 17 over the past two seasons, this years ASP Womens World Title race is shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested on record.

Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 23, reigning four-time ASP Womens World Champion and defending Rip Curl Womens Pro Bells Beach winner, suffered an uncharacteristic Quarterfinal loss in the opening event of the season on the Gold Coast, relinquishing her ASP World No. 1 spot for the first time September of 2008.

The Gold Coast event was obviously a bit disappointing for me in terms of results but I felt like I wasnt at 100% so I was happy with the effort in finishing 5th, Gilmore said. I feel like my wrist is much stronger now and Ive been putting time in with my shaper and working on my equipment. Hopefully that will transfer to an improved performance at Bells.

A three-time past champion of the Rip Curl Womens Pro Bells Beach (2007, 2008, 2010), Gilmore is the event favorite and will look to utilize her stylish and powerful forehand assault on the Bells Beach righthand canvas.

I love the vibe down at Bells, Gilmore said. You never know what youre going to get in terms of waves and weather and I guess that keeps everything interesting. Ive had a good run there over the past few years and hopefully we can get some good surf there this season.

Gilmores campaign for a fifth consecutive ASP Womens World Title this year will be made much more difficult by current ASP Womens World No. 1 Carissa Moore (HAW), 18, perennial threat Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 20, lethal rookie Tyler Wright (AUS), 17, and the remainder of the ASP Top 17.

All the girls are ripping these days and there are no easy heats, Gilmore said. That much was apparent up on the Gold Coast and its an exciting time for womens surfing. The level is being pushed by everyone and Im just going to go out there and try to have fun.

Bethany Hamilton (HAW), 20, has been awarded the wildcard into the Rip Curl Womens Pro Bells Beach where shell tee off against one of the top seeds from the outset of competition.

This year especially, the Womens Top 17 has a lot of new, young girls who are driven and competitive, and who have so much talent that they are pushing the level of Womens surfing more and more, said Hamilton. Its really exciting to watch, therefore Im excited to compete at Bells!

The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach presented by FORD will take place at Victorias pristine Bells Beach from April 19 30, 2011 and be webcast LIVE viawww.live.ripcurl.com and broadcast live on Fuel TV in Australia and ESPN in Brazil.

Running in conjunction with the womens event, the ASP Top 34 will contest the Rip Curl Pro presented by Ford Ranger.

With three of the world's top ten surfers Alana Blanchard, Pauline Ado and Tyler Wright, as well as Bethany Hamilton who's film Soul Surfer is set for release this year, the team is looking solid for 2011.

From left to tight: Pauline Ado, Alana Blanchard, Bethany Hamilton, Tyler Wright

Australias Tyler Wrights 5-year contract extension with Rip Curl

The young and talented 16-year-old Australian surfer, Tyler Wright, has extended her 5-year contract with Rip Curl. Tyler had an excellent season in 2010, finishing 3rd on the WQS circuit of the ASP and qualifying for the 2011 Womens World Tour. She is the youngest woman in the history of the sport to qualify for the elite competition.

The natural footed Tyler scored her second victory on the Tour, the ONeill World Cup of Surfing, in December 2010 at Sunset Beach (Hawaii). At the tender age of 16, Tyler Wright has not only won 2 ASP competitions but also stacked up comfortable victories against the worlds most prestigious womens surfers like Gilmore, Ho, Fitzgibbons, Lima or Mulanovich the 2004 World Champ. For Rip Curl, these auspicious beginnings leave no doubt as to the teenagers huge potential and the significant progression she is set to make.

The young Tyler Wright will represent the brands surfwear, wetsuit, and watches, bags and accessories sectors throughout the year and throughout the world!

The Hawaiian Alana Blanchard, a great start on the 2011 ASP WT

Born in Kauai 20 years ago, Alana Blanchard is as comfortable before a camera lens as she is surfing a 12-foot pipeline. Alana has been Rip Curls figurehead ambassador for several years, and her feminine charms and raw talent make her as skilled on a board as she is before the cameras. Her angel-face and mermaids allure contrast starkly with her wicked cutting-edge, no-holds-barred surf style.

Her entry on the WT circuit has been no surprise and Rip Curl will endeavour to make the most of her free-time to set up fresh photo-shoots and Search events so eagerly awaited by her many admirers. On the silver screen, she will also be playing herself alongside Bethany Hamilton in the Hollywood blockbuster, Soul Surfer, telling Bethanys incredible story, set for release in the US in April 2011.

Frances Pauline Ado: a dangerous outsider with a cool-head

Pauline does not come from a surfing family. It was by sheer chance that she started surfing at the age of eight when she signed up for a free learners course in her hometown Hendaye on the south-west coast of France. Pauline instantly fell in love with the sport and the ease with which she took to it and her love of competition did not escape Rip Curls attention and weve been sponsoring her since the age of 10.

Ever since, success has never stopped coming and she has scored major victories at the European and world levels. A 2006 ISA World Championship at the age of 15 sent her soaring into the big-time.Cool-natured Pauline is a modest soul with a great strategic vision and she has proved more than once that still waters run deep. Today her ASP Pro Tour rivals are only too alive to the very huge threat she poses.

Bethany Hamilton: A true story

When Bethany Hamilton lost her arm in a shark attack in 2003 while surfing with her talented neighbour Alana Blanchard, she shot to world stardom. The courage and determination that not only put her back on the board but also sent her battling for her place among the world elite have been extensively documented in print and on the screen. The Hollywood blockbuster recounting this incredible story, Soul Surfer, is set for release in the USA in April and stars Anna Sophia Robb in the role of Bethany, in a cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood. All surf scenes, meanwhile, will be played by Bethany Hamilton and Alana Blanchard themselves.

The European release dates have not yet been confirmed.
