Spending the whole winter in Indo, with a boyfriend who rips, surfing in a bikini three times a day, sounds fab to us frozen Brits. So we thought we'd catch up with the lucky Ms Harding and find out how she does it...

I bet you’re really fed up that your not pulling on a 5/4/3 right now, its freezing here!

Oh I’m gutted to not be pulling on all that rubber right now, I love that restricted feeling you get! Hmmm yeah right..!

How long have you been surfing and how did you get into it?

I have now been surfing for about 4 1/2 years. I started a little after I met my boyfriend Euge. It seemed to be such a massive part of his life I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and actually spend a bit of time with him. Ha! Now I can see why, its like an addiction and I’m definitely hooked!

You’ve just been sponsored by Animal, how’s that going?

I joined the Animal team in May and I’m stoked with the way things are going. Already they have sent me on a boat trip in the Maldives and on a photo shoot in Portugal as well as all the fun promotional stuff I do with them. They are extremely supportive and a great British brand with funky product I love to wear!

Make us feel really bad and describe your typical day in Indo?

A typical day for me right now mostly consists of doing my stretches and yoga, trying to surf at least three times a day, doing as much video analysis as possible, keeping my blog and basically training and keeping fit aiming to improve my surfing as much as I know I can. As well as eating delicious food, driving around checking spots on my ped and enjoying amazing company! Life is gooood…! Jealous now?

Yeah just a bit…so how come you can afford to spend your winters in Indo? Have you won the lottery or something?

No, ha, ha! We used to break it up a bit by spending time in Oz or NZ where we’d work for a month or so to keep us going. But last winter and this winter we decided to just do Indo for the whole time, it’s cheaper and you can stretch your money. It means NO work and more surf!

At home I work three job’s. In the mornings at Coswarth House a beautiful boutique B&B in Padstow. Through the day I hair braid down on the quay and at night I’m a waitress. I squeeze as much water time in as possible at times it can be pretty hardcore but all I have to do is think of spending the winter in Indo training, it’s my light at the end of the tunnel.

It’s pretty cheap to live out here if you’re wise about how you spend your money! Here’s my tips to making your pennies go further;

1. I know its hard with so many beautiful things, but DON’T go shopping everyday!

2. DON’T go out partying in Kuta every night. It’s a crap hole anyway!

3. Eat where the locals eat, it’s cheap and tastes better plus you’re less likely to get Bali Belly eating traditional food, they actually know how to cook!

4. Find a nice place to stay and rent for long periods of time, in doing so it’s possible to get up to a third off the price! Same goes if your renting bikes or a car.

The best thing you can do to ensure you escape the Baltic winters is to work hard through the summer, just always remember your end goal and the reason why your slaving away. Trust me it feels good once your here!

So how will you be celebrating Christmas Indo stylee?

Well hopefully the surf will be pumping and I’ll be getting barrelled off my head, look out for footage of me surfing in a Crimbo hat

We’re planning to rent a beautiful villa right on the cliff over looking Uluwatu. My nephew, sister and her bloke are here too, so us ladies will be cooking Christmas dinner and making mulled wine! Its the one thing I miss, Christmas at home it’s never the same in a hot country… Ah who am I kidding I’d much rather be here! Ho, ho, ho…

Ok well thanks Hannah, I’d best let you get back to the sun/surf/beach…

Thanks ladyz it’s been epic, but right now I’m going to go surf glassy Indo perfection! Have a great Christmas!

What does everyone do on a weekend on the south coast when there are no waves? For those of us who love the water and are still waiting for Boscombe’s artificial reef to work, we head out in the pursuit of watersport activities and festivals.

Over the weekend of 10th – 12th Septemtber Animal held its 12th annual Wind Fest at Sandbanks, Poole. The natural harbour of the beautiful Sandbanks area provided the ideal location for the ever growing Wind Fest.

The event is the only free beach sport festival in the UK, and during the weekend over 10,000 people cross the from the car park to the sand to get involved and be inspired by all the activities going on.

Whilst walking along the almost Californian style beach front (check out the amazing beach houses when you’re down there), there was every type of watersport and beach activity for when there are no waves…

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Kayaking

Boating

Yachting

Ultimate Frisbee

Jet Ski

Wake Boarding

Wind Surfing

Kite Surfing

Skateboarding

BMX-ing

Zorbing

Beach Volleyball

Water Skiing

… not to mention the Red Bull Matadors performing crazy aerial stunts.

Phew- quite a lot to choose from… there are a number of water-sport equipment specialists in the area, so it’s easy to hire out your kit and get lessons if you fancy a go. However, if you fancy taking a moment to slow things down, head to one of the cafes or restaurants overlooking the water. My personal recommendation is the Jazz Cafe- order the amazing Mussels with chips. It’s a little bit of holiday at home.

So next time the waves die, don’t think it’s an excuse to be bored at home. Make a point of getting out, exploring the coastline nearest to you- or even go further afield and discover the Sandbanks and get yourself out on a SUP or start to learn how to kitesurf or windsurf. After all, it’s all good outdoor time and surf training for when our beloved waves return…. that’s right, you just got to have faith that they will return.
