1. Health — you’re going to end up toned, fit and healthy, bursting with energy and stoke.
2. Culture — the films, art, literature, music, fashion and parties are great, and our sport has a long and fascinating history.
3. Hot men — as if we were going to miss that one out!
4. Beauty — tanned (safely!), toned, smiling, natural surf girls — what could be more gorgeous!
5. Environment — you can’t help but get an appreciation for and concern about this beautiful earth that we live on, and that can only ever be a good thing.
6. Spirit — something about being immersed in the ocean for hours and hours gives surf girls a different take on life and spirituality.
7. Fellow surfers — you will meet some amazing people, guaranteed.
8. Travel — surfers are roamers, and whether you only ever explore your own county or travel the whole globe, you’ll expand your horizons and mind.
9. Competition — if it’s your bag, you can have fun, make friends, prove yourself and earn money, if you work hard at it!
10. Attitude — surf girls are more relaxed, happy and open. Life’s problems seem better after a some time spent with Mother Ocean…

So get out there! Okay, maybe not today – it’s freeeezing and the north coast of Cornwall looks crazy, as if Poseidon has been blowdrying his hair for way too long – but there’s just nothing like the feeling a good surf gives ya!

I saw your post about the SURFice dog video, and wanted to thank you.¬† Your posting has helped create awareness for my charitable causes, and I’ve raised over $8000 from the video so far.¬† $3550 went toward a toy drive that resulted in over 630 toys for kids this past Christmas.¬† The remainer of the funds are going toward a little six year old boy’s therapies who suffered a brain injury in a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of his parents.

• You just want that hot guy to get his arse out of the way so you have more space on the peak. Jog on!

• You’re seriously thinking of jacking it all in to work at a beachside bar for the summer just so you can be closer to the waves.

• You don’t think twice about the boots-gloves-hood-rashy-5/3-earplugs combo, you’re just out there.

‚Ä¢ You always overestimate the waves (“It‚Äôs big, clean, sunny, offshore! What? Stuff the webcam! I‚Äôm telling you we need to get out there!”) and your mates always question your surf reports.

• When you haven’t quite got time to get in the waves, you’ll spend that spare half hour staring at them anyway. Torture!

• Your board is covered with stickers and duct tape because you are never out of the water long enough to let it dry so you can fix the dings.

• Your mother is upset because you haven’t called her.

• You blow off important things to surf. Come on…we’ve all done it…from meeting a mate to ducking out of a wedding.

• You’ll happily slave beyond all reason when there are no waves, just so you can earn a pass for when there are.

• You just don’t give a shit what you look like in a wetsuit. (And good on you.)

• Holidays are for surfing. They just are. And you will avoid going with anyone who doesn’t surf (or surfs, but doesn’t REALLY surf, as in every daylight hour).

• Coconut makes you think of sex wax and summer.

• Your car looks like a sandpit and smells like…well…just what IS that smell?

• You close your eyes and see lines; you fall asleep and dream waves.
