Suzi, what makes a good makeup artist?

Firstly makeup is an art, so you do need to be artistic. Because every face is different it’s also important to evaluate each person individually and be able to enhance a client’s best features, whilst minimising any imperfections. And you need a passion for makeup and fashion as this will be reflected in your work.

What makeup’s in this autumn?

Lots of black, from smokey eyes to a structured dramatic eye line. Lipstick is definitely back and gloss is out, and autumn colours like golds and bronze are also big this season.

Are you influenced by trends or do you have a certain style?

Definitely influenced by trends: from the catwalk and top designers through to fashion magazines.

Basic tips for great make up?

Blending is vital and a good brush for eye shadow is a must. A foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly can hide a multitude of sins, and eye lash curlers are essential to give bigger ‘wide awake’ eyes.
